The Pit and the pendulum is about the history of a man who's in a prison in Toledo. He is full of terror. He just remembers the judge. He is trying to recognize the place with his hands, he's not able to open his eyes because he is more than afraid. Finally he opens his eyes but he can't see anything, the blackness of the blackest night is around him. He thinks that is in a tomb, that he has been buried alive there. But he keeps on moving and the place seems so big to be a tomb. He tears off a piece of his shirt and put it on the floor like a reference and he starts walking in the prison, counting his steps but he falls asleep. When he wake up he put out his arm and find some food, then he follow the wall again, after that he finds the peace of shirt so he calculates that the prison is about 50 steps around, so about 30 metres.He start to move across the room but he falls on his face and he realizes that there's nothing under his face, he fells a little soft wind on his face and a warm wet smell like the smell of a dead thing. He puts of his hands and find that he is on the edge of a pit, but he wants to know how deep is it, so he drop a stone into the pit and and after a long time it finally falls into water. At the same moment the door opens and there is light for a seconds in the prison. He is afraid because he remembers te prison pits of the Inquisition and he begins to pray. He falls asleep one more time and when we wake up there's food again, but there's not so dark...
